History: H. Niitsu created the Fuji apple in 1939 in Aomori, Japan. It was later named Tohoku #7 after the Tohoku Research Station in Aomori, Japan. In 1962 the apple was given the name Fuji after Japan’s most famous mountain.

Raised in 1939 by H. Niitsu at the Horticultural Research Station, Nakahara, Japan. It was named in 1962. Fruits have crisp, juicy flesh with a slightly subacid flavour. Fruits often fail to mature fully in the UK.
