History: The Smoky Mountain Limbertwig apple most likely originates from the southern Appalachians. It probably dates from the early to late 1800’s.
 
Unfortunately, most of the Limbertwig apples history is lost to us. The Limbertwig apple is made up of many Southern varieties that are connected primarily by their unique taste and for some a weeping growth habit. The Limbertwig apples are thought to have originated in the early 1800’s, most likely as seedlings brought by settlers to the Appalachian region.
