History: The Fameuse apple, also known as the Snow apple, was discovered in Quebec, Canada in the early 1700’s. The Fameuse apple might be the result of apple seeds brought over from France in the early 1600’s and planted in settlements along the St. Lawrence River.

Thought to be a Canadian variety and may have been raised from seed brought from France by early settlers. It was planted in the USA in about 1730. Fruits have rather soft, fine-textured, juicy flesh with a very sweet and vinous flavour - similar to McIntosh.
